Marcus Lemons ('91) Attends Bridge Ceremony

Alumnus Marcus Lemonis Attends Blessing of Bridge he Helped Build
"The Lemonis Passage" is dedicated to his childhood best friends Mario Suerias & Michael Ortiz

The RV industry leader, Marcus Lemonis, who is the Chairman and CEO of Camping World and a 1991 graduate of Columbus took time from his busy schedule to visit the school for a special ceremony to bless the bridge that he helped construct on campus. "The Lemonis Passage", as it is called, connects the school's "B" and "C" buildings on the second floor.

“Columbus is about learning and growing, but most importantly about developing and maintaining life-long relationships and friendships”, said Marcus.   When he agreed to help finance the bridge, his request was to dedicate it to the friends for life that students make in the halls and to include the names of his two best childhood friends and fellow 1991 CCHS grads on the bridge’s plaque -  Mario Suerias and Michael Ortiz, who were both present at the event and are pictured above

On November 4th, Jon Jay, Columbus alumnus from the class of 2003 and 2011 MLB World Series Champion Center-fielder for the St. Louis Cardinals took time from his busy celebration week to visit his alma mater and speak to the Columbus baseball team. He gave great words of inspiration to the team and left them with the message that they should always stay positive, even during periods of struggle, and to never make excuses or complain. He encouraged them to always take pride in everything they do and to always believe in themselves and and in the team.

He even made the cover of Sports Illustrated during the series in an action shot.  Jay also received the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association "Heart and Hustle" award for the St. Louis Cardinals in August.  The award honors active players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and embody the values, spirit, and tradition of the game.  In total, Jay hit 10 homeruns, drove in 37 runs, scored 56 times, stole six bases, and his batting average for the season was .297 in 2011.

9/11 Eyewitness Paul Ferretti Visits Columbus

Students Hear from Ground Zero Eyewitness - Paul Ferretti
to Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11

The Rho Kappa and History Club along with Social Studies Teacher Ms. Mary T. McCullagh welcomed Mr. Paul Ferretti to Columbus on September 12th to share his 9/11 Ground Zero testimony. The event was open to the entire Columbus family in the school's newly remodeled Theater for the Performing Arts. Mr. Ferretti gave a unique perspective from that day being that he not only escaped from inside the Twin Towers after the first plane hit but then immediately served as a first responder to those needing help and then worked at Ground Zero in the recovery effort. The students listened attentively as he recounted all that he experienced from what it sounded like when the towers collapsed to how he dug alongside firemen on the scene and had his boots melt off from the jet fuel..

He explained to the students the importance of helping each other in times of disaster and to never forget what happened on that day.
